Here's mine... it was a planned c/s but still might have good info!
Alexander was born at 39 weeks after my water broke. With Ian, at 37w3d, I walked around feeling weird all Saturday morning... A was napping and I remember bringing some stuff in from the car, thinking how my thighs hurt and remembering hearing about "thigh labor" on kellymom. I then sat down to balance my checkbook and got the urge to do some planning ahead - tied up some loose ends, shook my head in despair at my to-do list and laid down for a nap with Alexander. About 2:15 I felt a clear contraction. Thought, oh hell no, I still have to finish stuff at work, and can't do this til Wednesday. 10 minutes later, another one... I started timing them online and they were at 7... by 3 it was pretty obvious it was happening but I was still in denial. By 5 pm they were every 5 minutes or so, and I couldn't do anything during them, just had to close my eyes and ride them out. Doc's office said to head on in. They hooked me up to the monitor at 7:15, I was only 2 cm but quickly went to strong cx every 2 mins, so they went ahead and decided to do it. Ian was born at 9:56 pm, less than 8 hours after the party began. hey, do you have contact info for anyone for when it happens? Let me know if you want me to pm my number so you can text me! |

No I don't have anyone's info, I'll have to send that out to someone! Eric does have that thing now though that I could update facebook and stuff
with, but I should still have someone's info.
Ok my background Eli was 14 days late. I went in for induction around 7, got my first dose of cyctotec (knowing what I know now I never would have accepted that but I had no clue how dangerous that could be *sigh*) anyways had that around 10. Was told somewhere around noon that they'd probably send me home *insert crazed pregnant woman here* because someone else had come in that needed a section. Then the dr was late coming back and at 2ish I had a contraction that sat me right up straight in bed, 2:10 another and then my water broke and gushed everywhere, proving to indeed be incredibly disgusting So I ate and had a hard time doing it, I kept having to stop because of the contrax. Immediatly after supper it got bad and I don't remember a whole lot, it turned into this whole out of body experience like I was watching from above and I was SO incredibly sick from eating, but it kinda gave me something to focus on cuz I really didn't want to puke At 7:30 I thought my insides just might fall out so they came in to check telling me that there was no way I was ready to push and then the nurses all started freaking cuz he was like right there and the dr was no where to be found. WTH people?? Anyways I pushed 4 times and he was born at 7:45. Be there til next morning my ass. That kid was coming OUT |

wow heather! Usually inductions for first babies do take a long time...so thats probably them preparing you for a long wait.
Second babies tend to come faster and with less pushing, but you didn;t have much the first time, so it will probably be about the same. cytotec for induction is not good, unless you have had a few babies, then it seems to work the quickest with less dosing, cervidil is much better. |

Ah they're all different, so you never can tell.
Generally though, second labours are shorter, and the pushing bit is easier. (But I guarantee you won't think that at the time! |

See I wasn't in hard painful labor for more than 2 hours. So that's why I'm wondering how it'll go...I know no one can tell me of course
I LIKED pushing as strange as that sounds. When I finally could push I was SO relieved, the pain all left and I felt focused and with it, it did burn awful when his head came out and I stopped to take a breath but as I was actually pushing there was no pain |

Dave was a couple of days early, I woke up having contractions at 2:35 in the AM adn we went to the hospital about5 or so. They checked me, I was only 2 cm and
we had to wait until 8 when the doctor came in before they would say I could go home and labor at home. By the time the doc got there at 9ish I think I was up
to 4 and they said I wasn't going anywhere. They let me eat a little breakfast because it didn't occur to me on the way in and we were there all day.
My water never broke, they did it for me around 6cm I think. I pushed for about a half hour, Dave was born at 2:37 pm.
Alexa was one day past my official due date and at an OB appt they did a weight check through u/s and they weren't seeing her practice breathing (although I didn't now that was what they were watching for at the time) so they sent me home to get my bags and take care of Dave and off to the hospital we went. No rush though, she wasn't in any danger they just figured why wait around since I was scheduled to be induced the following Wed. anyway (this was a Friday). They were supposed to use cytotec but I asked a few questions and although my OB has had great success with it since I questioned it they used Cervadil instead since she wasn't even engaged never mind being dialated at all. They told me that cervadil rarely puts women into labor so they would do that for 12 hrs and then would start pitocin in the AM after I had been in the hospital so we were looking at a Sat. or maybe Sunday baby. They placed the cervadil at 6 pm and I started having contractions almost right away. They went on getting more and more intense until midnight or something when we ended up giving me vistaril or something, supposedly to help me sleep (which I didn't really do I must admit - but who can sleep through contractions every 3-4 min??). About 3:30 am I asked for a hot water bottle sicne I thought my back was going to give out and they checked and decided to take the cervadil out. I was still only 2-3 cm. We went into the shower since contractions were like every 2 min or something and were in there for about an hour or a little more. By the time I got out of the shower I was dialated almost fully but my water stil had not broken 0 the nurse said she could see the baby through the water sac it was pushing out of my cervix - which I was not surprised to hear since every contraction felt like she was going to fly out. They broke my water about 4:45 I think and that sent me back to 7 cm for about 10 min I think. I pushed about 4 or 5 times and she came flying out -- they were paging the doctor and I could hear the nurses saying "where is dr soucy>? page her again!!" She was born at 5:32 am. It was a little shorter overall I guess but very intense.

I'm mean, and if I was your midwife, you wouldn't be getting an epidural!
Seriously, if you really, REALLY, REALLY insisted on one, then I'd try to get you one, but for a second baby, when the first was so quick and straightforward, I just think it's at best a waste of time, and at worst, the beginning of a cascade of intervention that might cause more trouble than it's worth! Like you say, it's great to know it's there as an option, but if you don't need it - why have it! |

Jake was induced at 37 weeks 3 days. I arrived at the hospital around 2pm - after lunch... BIG mistake. They started pitocin at 4 pm. They asked if I wanted an
epidural at 8:00 and I said I didn't think so becasue the contx weren't all that bad. They told me I could wait since he wouldn't be born until the
later morning/early afternoon. I started to dilate somewhat quickly (at least that's what they said). They stripped my membranes around 9:00 and I had DH
call and tell them I changed my mind on the epi. Had the epi by 9:30 or so. Waited around until midnight and started pushing shortly thereafter. Jake was born
at 12:47 am... much earlier than the docs had predicted.
With Cade I felt like my "water" was leaking on Friday - went to the ob - they did the test (forgot the name of the test) and said it was just urine... nice! On Sunday I felt like it was leaking more and didn't feel good. Calle dthe ob and he said he was getting ready to rounds at the hospital so why didn't I come in and he could check me. Again they did the test, again they said it was urine. He told me I could stay and he would induce me.... but he suggested I wait until I was in actual labor. I opted to wait given that we were only at 37 weeks 3 days and there had been some concerns that he was small. Around 7:00 Monday morning I told DH thought he should call in sick because I thought I was having contractions. I waited around until 9:00 am and called the Dr. They said that I could come in and see a midwife to be checked. I finally got in to see the midwife around 11:00 (after sitting in the waiting room with DH and a 13 month old Jake). By then the contractions were starting to be uncomfortable and I was pretty sure I was in labor. She doubted me (since I had been in twice already) but checked me anyway... and said I was dilated to 7cm and that I needed to go to the hospital immediately. She called the hospital - they said they were full - she told them we were coming anyway. The hospital is next to the Dr. office so I went right over. They got me set up and I ended up getting an epi around 1:00. Cade was born at 1:50 after 2 pushes. If I had it to do over agin I wouldn;t have had the epi - although he did come out sunny side up. Both times I was as sick as a dog (opuking everywhere) after delivering. At least with Cade I was up and moving by the eraly evening and really wanted to go hom the next morning. ![]()

Do you think it was the epi that made you sick or just the labor?
Epidurals kinda scare me, not only because the needle is SO FREAKING HUGE, but I've heard of the massive headaches they can give you afterward, I know they're rare but it freaks me out, I get migraines anyway and these appear far worse than that and for days on end. I've heard of other weird things too. I'm sure also rare. But I'm paranoid It's almost worse for me to have the option because I can't decide what I would like to do |
|||

I have seen epidurals actually speed up labour in some cases, where I can not get the moan to relax her pelvic floor at all, and be stuck at 5 cm, get an
epidural and be fully dilated in a hour. Those are all rare, but they are serious risks. It seems like everything invlved in labour and delivery has serious
risks though.

So true!
I hope I get there after gentle laboring and become one of THOSE women who get checked and they're like 7cm already and it's barely painful But those are the same women who deliver early. I'm not one of them |

Sorry... I'm one of THOSE women!!!
You know - I don't know whether it was the epi or the delivery that made me vomit. I kind-of think it was the delivery becasue both times it started about 10 minutes after they were born. Cade was a much easier labor and delivery but the vomiting was much worse. I couldn't stop throwing up, was shaking quite a bit and was very cold. They ended up giving me phenergan (sp?) in my IV which ended it... unfortunately it made me sleep and I missed a couple hours there. I felt great when I woke up though!! On a side note - both my boys were small too - just over 5 pounds. ![]()

haha I know you are
Eli was a very average size, 7lb 14oz. I'm measuring like 2 weeks ahead, which she didn't put much stock in because it's a second baby and you tend to measure bigger I guess. But it makes me nervous. |

I should have mentioned that also....I puked during both labors also. Not really fun....

Yep puking and shaking is pretty typical of most labours. Unpleasant, but typical.

I really thought I was going to but blamed it on eating supper, maybe I would have felt like that anyway.

I puked too.
Sometimes the puking afterwards can be if they've had to give you ergometrine (especially IV) - that will, without a shadow of a doubt make you puke your guts up. I threw up loads on the operating table as well - that's really tricky because you can't feel any of the muscles you need to puke any more, and you have to do it lying flat on your back. Then my lovely anaesthetist gave me IV ondansetron, which is currently my favourite drug EVER because it made me feel better in about 30 seconds. Fantastic. |

Rach, I have seen it, you need the combo though...the puking and the shaking, usually mean transitioning, or fully...which is a great thing.
